Although my work is more figuratively speaking abstract, I am inspired by Nalini Malini ephemeral installations and drawings of women in mythology as a way to make sense of female identity by situating it in a space and time that encapsulates their power. My work is more personal and draws from my generation's iconic image the Barbie doll. Like Malini, I draw from iconic female images that have influenced our culture and seek to contemporize what is still contested territory and that is female bodies, stories, and prescribed genders.
